Gut for leader tying is sold in hanks containing on an average twenty-five strands running from ten to fourteen inches in length. These hanks consist of either the Spanish assortment, containing good, bad and indifferent strands, or are made up in packages of selected strands by the dealer and sold at a higher price. Systems of grading differ, but a sensible way is as follows: Refina, extra light trout. Fina, light trout. Regular, trout size. Padron, black bass size. Marana, heavy bass. Double thick marana, salmon size. Of these the bass fisherman will use mostly Regular, Padron and Marana, while the trout fisher will use these sizes and then down to the finest drawn gut. |
